Deadly Plums!

Just wanna share with you the list of banned dried plums and prunes. Please do not consume them! shameonyou

I buy these sweet and sour treats whenever I go out... but NO more. I have been eating them since... errrr... for as long as I can remember! Die la... sure got lead in my system. nailbyte

Friday, October 9 KUALA LUMPUR ~ The sale of 18 types of dried plum and prune from China, Taiwan and other Asian countries has been restricted by the Health Ministry after high degrees of lead was detected.

The foodstuff - known as asam or jeruk in Malay and kiam sui tee (salty, sour and sweet) in Hokkien which are immensely popular as tidbits among Malaysians - has been put on Level 5 alert by the ministry’s Food Safety and Quality Division under its Food Information System of Malaysia.

Lead poisoning can cause damage to the nerve connections (especially in young children), damage to the nervous system, blood and brain disorders, damage to or disease of the kidney, increased blood pressure, anaemia, miscarriage and damage to reproductive organs.

Lead is a metal that can be absorbed into the body over time.

kind of scary how many things can go wrong these days in packaged food. Makes you want to start growing all your own. If only it was that easy.

Hai Iyda :)

I dpt tahu from the Star Online, tak baca 'real' paper anymore... hehe

Hati-hati semasa membeli buah-buahan kering especially the 'preserved' ones.

Nessa said...

Dora ~ I think SunSweet is safe. These are mostly products from China, Taiwan.

I do love pitted prunes :)

Nessa said...

Mama Mia ~ Sia pun sama juga, memang susah sbb sia macam addicted to those sweet/sour preserved fruits :( Tapi, wat to do... health comes first.

You tak suka makan jeruk ke Marzie?? Yeah, must remind B. Kene makan coklat candy bars dulu la... hehe

Hi Katherine! Welcome to Mumblings :)

We should limit this type of food, better still eliminate them altogether cos they're junk food. But, sometimes it's easier said than done :)

It is scary, we're actually poisoning ourselves to death!

Thanks for dropping by.

Nessa said...

Ann ~ Yeah... if only it was that easy. I shall try to avoid processed food especially preserved ones... wish me luck! :D

Tetcha ~ I shall keep my eyes opened especially when it comes to preserved food.
